A Christmas Carol - the all-clown version
In Fall 2009, The Ahimsa Collective’s resident clown troupe, “Everybody Nose”, will present an all-clown version of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”. The show follows the story of 18 clowns striving to mount this holiday classic, chronicling everything from the auditions for the show, the “backstage crew”, opening night, and even the clown cast party!
This magical, image-heavy and interactive experience will be sure to captivate the imaginations of young audiences, while simultaneously encouraging adults to let go and just play. Director Negin Singh and Assistant Director Jack De Sena, alongside Designers Jeremy Hill (Lighting), Darcy Prevost (Scenic), Noelle Blanco (costumes) and Michael Cooper (Sound) hope to create a one-of-a-kind, wordless event pleasing to all senses- complete with hot chocolate, snow, blankets, and exciting re-workings of favorite holiday carols- all while paying homage to this iconic piece of theater.
For the first time in AC history, the show will be geared specifically for families with young children (but there's still plenty for adults to enjoy). Most experimental and underground art is not appropriate for children, so parents are forced to buy expensive tickets from large companies such as Disney and Sesame Street in order to expose their children to art, and with today’s economy, many households are forgoing that luxury. The AC is providing a theater experience where families can buy tickets for under $20, or attend pay-what-you-can nights while still offering a fun, interactive, and eye-opening experience for kids and adults. Excited by the prospect of being a child’s first experience with theater, The AC hopes to make an imprint and inspire with our wildly expressive and compassionate clowns re- telling of a story passed down from generation to generation.
